The 2004 Laureate exhibits powerful, dark fruit aromas and a rich, broad mouth-feel. Ripe blackberry and currant are complemented by undertones of cedar, coffee and vanilla bean. Notes of chocolate and a hint of licorice linger through a finish of lush tannins and dark plum.
2005 is considered an excellent vintage. White Rock had a long growing season and the fruit enjoyed ideal ripening conditions. Ripe plum, currant and cedar dominate the nose and subtle undertones of tar and tobacco become apparent on entry. A curious licorice and pencil lead evolve into a long, rich fruit finish. The blackberry flavors, emblematic of White Rock Cabernets, linger in the mouth. Tannins, bold and reminiscent of dark chocolate, are wonderfully balanced with the sunny fruit flavors. Complex and delicious.
2007 produced a low crop of chardonnay with small berries and rich flavors. I balanced this richness by avoiding malolactic fermentation. This retains a nice balancing acidity and bright fruit and floral aromas. The nose shows aromas of lemon, white peach, caramel and a hint of toastiness. In the mouth it is expansive and delicious with a long flavorful finish. Drinks well now and promises to age well for the next 15 years.
“ The 2003 White Rock Cabernet Sauvignon is a rich and ripe vintage. It has a complexity of cassis, plum and dark fruit with undertones of oak and leather. It is textured and multilayered and its mouthfilling character remains throughout to a long full finish. Present tannins promise excellent ageability.”
